I love a good catchline and I'm sure most people don't even know
what I'm talking about. They appear on a film's poster and generally are a sharply
worded phrase that sums up the essence of the movie. This had me thinking, just
what are the best taglines that I can recall.

Here's a select few that I found particularly enjoyable
Titanic - "Nothing on Earth could come between them."
Romeo & Juliet - "The greatest love story the world has ever known."
Save The Last Dance - "The only person you have to be is yourself."
Snow Falling On Cedars - "First loves last. Forever."
Pleasantville - "Nothing is as simple as black and white."
The English Patient - "In love, there are no boundaries."
October Sky - "Sometimes one dream is enough to light up the whole sky."
Traffic - "No one gets away clean."
Go - "Life begins at 3am."
The Sweet Hereafter - "There is no such thing as the simple truth."
The Thin Red Line - "Every man fights his own war."
Magnola - "Things fall down. People look up. And when it rains, it pours."
The Insider - "Warning: Exposing the truth may be hazardous."
The Cider House Rules - "A story about how much we must travel to find the place where we belong."
The Contender - "Sometimes you can assassinate a leader without firing a shot."
How To Make An American Quilt - "There's beauty in the patterns of life."
Memento - "Some memories are best forgotten."

I could go on with a variety of others but you can see the point I'm trying to make.
I loved all of the above films and it's great to come up with a few single words that
sums up what I loved so much about the film. My all time favourite is Varsity Blues
and as a permanent reminder, I have a blockmounted copy of an original poster
on my wall (which I am looking at right now). It was an inspiring film and the
tagline says it best - "Make your own rules."

So next time you see a film, always take a peak at the poster to see just what
you're in store for.
